NEW ORLEANS - Florida's incoming head football coach Billy Napier was named the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year, the conference office announced Thursday.
Napier has led the No. 20/24 Ragin' Cajuns to an undefeated conference record (8-0) this season and its fourth-straight Sun Belt West Division title. He earns the honor for the second time in his career after he became the program's first Sun Belt Coach of the Year in 2019. Louisiana owns a 27-7 record against Sun Belt opposition under Napier, including a perfect 16-0 mark against members of the conference's West Division.
Named the Louisiana Sports Writer Association Coach of the Year in 2020, Napier took the Ragin' Cajuns to unprecedented heights when the team broke into the national rankings last year for the first time in the modern era. The team finished the campaign ranked No. 15 in the AP Top 25, No. 16 in the USA Today/Amway Coaches Poll and No. 19 in the College Football Playoff, Louisiana's highest rankings in all three polls.
He has spent the last four seasons as Louisiana's head coach (2018-21), and will lead them to the Sun Belt Conference Championship Game for the fourth-consecutive year when they face App State Saturday, Dec. 4.
