GAINESVILLE, Fla. — There's nothing like the hiring of a new football coach in college football.
A few days ago, the upcoming edition of Two Bits magazine had a different cover. Not after the Gators hired Billy Napier. Time to call an audible.
That's just a small personal slice of the people puzzle here at UF this week with Napier set to arrive on Sunday for his introductory press conference. The 29th head coach in UF football history (counting interim coaches Gary Darnell, Charlie Strong, D.J. Durkin, Randy Shannon and Greg Knox) has started to pop up on ticket ads, graphics and digital merchandise.
The 42-year-old Napier is coaching his Louisiana-Lafayette team on Saturday in the Sun Belt Conference championship game. He will then wrap up business with his Ragin' Cajuns and turn attention to meeting the Gators on Sunday.
