Carter's Corner: Jones' Outlook, More Recent Gators Headlines

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Let's face it, we've all had a lot to deal with over the past year. Sports have helped some of us stay sane through the coronavirus pandemic, while others have been forced to turn their attention away from the games because of real-life circumstances.
Whichever camp you are in, there's no denying that it's starting to feel a little more normal for those of us who keep a close eye on the Gators.
As someone who recently dealt with COVID-19 on a personal level, I truly felt disconnected from the daily happenings on campus for the first time since returning to UF a decade ago. It was weird to say the least.
Fortunately, as I come off the disabled list, there is no shortage of action to reinvigorate the mind and body. If you are plugged into the Gators, you know what I'm talking about.
With that said, as I focus on original material to get back in the groove, I want to touch on some of the latest headlines covering the Gators to not only help me catch up, but hopefully to keep you informed on perhaps something you missed.
Like I said, there is a lot going on. Of course, my colleagues in the University Athletic Association communications department continue to provide the latest information here on our official website. They haven't missed a beat despite constant schedule changes, revamped working conditions and the general day-to-day uncertainty of how the pandemic might impact today.
To them, I say job well done.
Now, let's check out what is turning into a busy spring for the Gators, starting with some of the latest from spring football:
-- Quarterback Emory Jones is one of the headliners in camp as he looks to take the next step in his career and take over as the starter. Edgar Thompson of the Orlando Sentinel writes about Jones as he enters his first spring camp as Florida's projected starter.
-- Gators coach Dan Mullen's future was a hot topic between the end of the Cotton Bowl and the start of camp and Gainesville Sun columnist David Whitley reads the tea leaves and offers a sensible take on Mullen's prospects at Florida.
-- ESPN.com reviews a key question for each team (Gators included) in its way-too-early Top 25 heading into 2021.
-- The UF baseball team hit the road for the first time this season and beat North Florida writes Nick de la Torre of GatorsTerritory.com.
-- The UF men's basketball team won at Auburn on Tuesday night and here is a story from Tom Green of AL.com on what happened on the Plains.
-- The Gators track and field teams are in Arkansas for this week's SEC Indoor Championships:
-- Several Gators and UF alumni have voiced their support of candidates in the UF Student Government race writes Declan Walsh of the Independent Florida Alligator.
-- The No. 1-ranked Gators gymnastics team put on a memorable performance in Friday's win over Kentucky writes Samantha Marshall of AlligatorArmy.com.
-- The UF women's golf team won its sixth consecutive Gator Invitational writes Michael Hull of the Independent Florida Alligator.
-- The UF Gators softball team features three key seniors who returned to play with extended eligibility writes Rachel Slay of the Independent Florida Alligator.
-- The UF women's basketball team is on its stretch run, which means colleague Sam Stolte is working a lot. Stolte usually sets up interviews, but he recently gave one to his hometown Edwardsville (Ill.) Intelligencer about his role with the Gators.
