Sunday, February 28, 2021 | Men's Golf
The Florida men’s golf team heads back to Gainesville with a fifth-place finish in Baton Rouge.
BATON ROUGE, La. – The University of Florida men's golf team finished in fifth place at the conclusion of the LSU Invitational.
Three Gators tied for 15th place – Yuxin Lin, Tyler Wilkes and individual player John DuBois – behind scores of 5-over 221. Freshman Tyler Wilkes recorded the best finish of his career, besting his T18 finish at the Gators Invitational.
Ricky Castillo carded a 7-over par 223 to tie for 24th, the eleventh top-25 finish of his career.
Fred Biondi and Joe Pagdin closed out the Gators lineup.
Head Coach JC Deacon's Take
On today's round…
"Obviously, a tough day for the Gators, but it's the perfect time of year for this to happen. I feel fortunate to have been humbled in February instead of April/May. This team is built to win championships and we will use today to our advantage."
On the overall play at LSU…
"We've played at a very high level this spring… been in contention to win with three holes to go in every tournament we've competed in so far in 2021. We closed out the first two (tournaments) and just didn't get it done today. We were playing against the best teams in the country on a very difficult course. The margins are extremely slim."
On where to go from here…
"I know exactly what we need to do. I'm excited for the opportunity to bounce back from a tough day."
