
Three Gators Named to SEC Weekly Honors

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Three Gators were named to this week's SEC weekly honors after posting impressive performances at this year's South Carolina Invitational, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Senior thrower Thomas Mardal was named SEC Men's Field Athlete of the Week, sophomore sprinter Joseph Fahnbulleh earned SEC Men's Co-Runner of the Week honors and newcomer Talitha Diggs was tabbed SEC Women's Freshman of the Week.
In his first performance of the year, Mardal logged an NCAA-leading mark of 23.14 meters (75 feet, 11 inches) in the weight throw. Mardal, who was crowned SEC weight throw champion last year, improved his personal record by 0.25 meters with a mark that ranks second on UF's Indoor All-Time Top 10 list.
Fahnbulleh ran a time of 20.60 seconds in the 200 meters, setting a new personal best and a facility record. His time ranks third in the nation and in the world, as well as No. 6 in school history.
Diggs, who was named the top SEC freshman after her collegiate debut two weeks ago, earned her second conference honors this year after crossing in 52.34 seconds in the 400 meters. Also a new facility record, her time ranks third in the nation and eighth on UF's indoor All-Time Top 10 list.
The Gators are back in action Friday when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark. for this year's Tyson Invitational.
