GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Former Florida defensive tackle Brad Culpepper and running back Errict Rhett are among 78 player candidates named to the 2022 College Football Hall of Fame ballot, the National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Football Hall of Fame announced Wednesday.
This marks Culpepper's third consecutive year on the ballot while Rhett makes his debut.
A four-year letterwinner, Culpepper helped the Gators win the program's first SEC Championships during his senior season in 1991. He also garnered First Team All-SEC honors and was a consensus First Team All-American that season.
Culpepper, who was inducted into the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame as a "Gator Great" in 2001, finished his career with 18 sacks and 47.5 tackles-for-loss, while setting a school record as a senior with 21.5 TFLs. He was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the 10th round (264th overall pick) of the 1992 NFL Draft.
Rhett was a 1993 First Team All-American and the first player in FBS history to rush for more than 4,100 yards and catch more than 140 passes in a career. The Three-time All-SEC selection twice led the conference in rushing and is Florida's all-time leader in rushing yards (4,163) and carries (873).
Rhett was the 1994 Sugar Bowl MVP after scoring three touchdowns and rushing for 105 yards on 25 carries to help lead the Gators to a 41-7 victory over West Virginia.
The ballot was emailed today to the more than 12,000 NFF members and current Hall of Famers whose votes will be tabulated and submitted to the NFF's Honors Courts, which will deliberate and select the class. The announcement of the 2022 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be made in early 2022, with specific details to be announced in the future.
The 2022 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be officially inducted during the 64th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 6, 2022, and permanently immortalized at the Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta. They will also be honored at their respective schools with an NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute, presented by Fidelity Investments, during the 2022 season.
