Captains snag their first ever CoSIDA academic award on Thursday.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gators captains, Sam Riffice and Duarte Vale, continue to gain recognition after their historic season as they were named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District IV Men's At-Large First Team announced on Thursday afternoon.
This award honors the nation's top student-athletes for their performance in the classroom and on the court. In District 4, Riffice and Vale were one of three student-athletes to be selected from an institution in Florida. In addition, Florida was the only university (other than the University of Alabama) to have multiple honorees make the academic team in the district.
Riffice secured the individual national championship this season after he defeated the No. 1 and No. 2-seeded players in consecutive days en route to the national title. Riffice is now one of eight players this century to win both the individual and team national titles in the same season. He recorded a 32-7 overall singles record in the 2021 season and has now snagged his first ever CoSIDA Academic All-District award.
Vale played at No. 1-singles for the entire season and boasted an impressive 17-6 overall record. His 10-2 conference record also earned him First Team All-SEC accolades. Vale joins teammate Riffice as an ITA All-American after their incredible season. Vale has made the SEC Honor three times and was named to the 2018 ITA All-Academic Team. This is his first CoSIDA Academic All-District award.
