
SEC Releases Preseason Cross Country Coaches’ Poll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Florida Gators men's and women's cross country teams have been selected to finish eighth in the 2021 Cross Country Preseason Coaches' Poll as released by the Southeastern Conference on Thursday morning.
Voted by league coaches, Arkansas' men's and women's cross country teams are predicted to win the conference this season and were awarded 11 and 10 first-place votes, respectively.
Points for the men's poll were awarded on a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11 basis, while the points for the women's poll were awarded on a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13 basis. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own teams.
Even though the Florida men lost key runners in Trevor Foley and Blake Lowery, the team has added many new faces this season with 10 freshmen in Orlando Cicilioni, Michael Fiore, Eoin McNally, Matt Mule', Jonathan Pitchford, Josh Stern, Javi Vento, Aiden Villasuso, Joe Wester and Mac Wright. The team returns six runners who have SEC Championships experience with Matt Clark, Nick Deal, Ethan Geiger, Reed Legg, Cade Monk and Angel Vicioso.
On the women's side, the team is led by returnee Vasileia Spyrou, who placed 17th at the SEC Championships last season. Other key returners are Imogen Barrett, Payton Capes-Davis, Emily Culley, Maria Fernandez, Gianna Forte, Emily Jones and Rylee Pustilnik. The team also added three freshmen in Olivia Jones, Julia Lavrador and Keleigh Scallon.
Florida is set to begin its cross country season with the annual Mountain Dew Invitational on September 11 in Gainesville.
