Friday, August 6, 2021 | Men's Tennis, Otis Hawkins Center
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – For the first time in program history, a Gator was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Division I At-Large Team after men's tennis captain Sam Riffice earned Academic All-America Second Team accolades as announced by CoSIDA on Friday afternoon.
The political science major boasts an impressive 3.72 GPA and is the first men's tennis player to receive this honor. Riffice was also named to the SEC Academic Spring Honor Roll List and the ITA Scholar-Athletes All-Academic Team earlier this month, in addition to receiving CoSIDA's Academic All-District IV Men's At-Large First Team, which qualified him to receive All-American status.
After helping the team to its first NCAA National Championship title with a 4-1 victory over Baylor, Riffice also won the NCAA Singles Championship, making him the third player in program history to do so since 1999. Riffice finished the season ranked No. 2 in the final ITA tennis rankings, while earning his fourth All-American honor after becoming the eighth player in the 21st century to earn a team and singles national championship in the same season. Riffice went on to beat the No. 1 and No. 2-seeds in back-to-back days to win the singles title just days after claiming the team national championship.
