Second Round Surge Moves Gators Into Third

Florida shot a combined 8-under to move into a tie for third on day one of the Cougar Classic.
CHARLESTON, S.C. - A second-round surge by the Gator women's golf team in the season opener moved them in a tie for 3rd on day one of the Cougar Classic.
After a first-round that had the Gators in possession of 5th at 1-under, the group responded in the second for a combined 8-under.
Clara Manzalini led the push turning in a 67 (-5) behind five birdies. The senior recorded a clean scorecard as she recorded her 12th career round under par to sit T9 overall. Also in a tie for 9th, Maisie Filler notched back-to-back low rounds (71-70) as the only Gator to finish under par in both.
Two other Gators sit in a tie as well. Jackie Lucena and Annabell Fuller both shot two rounds of 72 (E) to check in a 24th. In the middle of the Florida squad, Marina Escobar finished 1-under in her second round to become one of three Gators to finish under par in the second set of 18. She sits T18 (-1).
Competing as an individual, Ester Fägersten concluded her collegiate debut at 2-over to place T35.
The final round is scheduled for 8:45 a.m. tomorrow at Yeamans Hall Club.
