GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Gators are headed south this week to face USF in Tampa. First, they stayed in neutral in one national poll and took a turn north in the other on Tuesday.
In the first AP Top 25 of the regular season, the Gators held at No. 13 following their 35-14 home win over FAU on Saturday night in the season opener. Alabama stayed at No. 1, followed by SEC foe Georgia, which moved up to No. 2 following a win against then-No. 3 Clemson in the season opener. According to the AP, this is the 30th time in the 85-year history of the poll that the top two teams are from the SEC.
Ohio State, Oklahoma and Texas A&M round out the top five. Florida is one of six SEC schools in the AP Top 25, joining Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, No. 20 Ole Miss and No. 25 Auburn.
Meanwhile, the Gators are a top-10 team in the latest USA TODAY Sports/AFCA Coaches Poll, released earlier Tuesday afternoon.
Florida climbed from 11th to ninth in the coaches poll following its win over FAU. Gators head coach Dan Mullen is one of the 65 FBS head coaches with a vote this season.
The Gators (1-0) face USF (0-1) on Saturday in only the second meeting between the programs. The Bulls lost 45-0 at N.C. State in their season opener.
