GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gators travel to Tampa, Fla., this week to face USF in their first road game of the season, and although it will be another college football Saturday, the occasion also marks the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The Florida football team unveiled Thursday this week's uniform, which will be worn to commemorate the date and honor first responders and those who lost their lives 20 years ago.
The team will be wearing white jerseys, white pants and white helmets featuring a red, white and blue-script Gators logo.
Redshirt seniors Zachary Carter and Malik Davis visited with local firefighters Tuesday at Gainesville Fire Station 1 as part of a photo shoot for this week's uniform unveiling on social media.
"[The first responders] put themselves last and they put the health of others first, so it means a lot to me and I'm happy we're able to go out and represent them this weekend," Davis said during the photo shoot.
"It just means everything," Carter added. "Wearing the red, white and blue, sometimes people take that for granted. It stands for freedom. These guys helping us and making sacrifices for us, it's important to me."
Saturday's game kicks off a 1 p.m. from Raymond James Stadium on ABC. It will be the second time the Gators face the Bulls, with Florida leading the series 1-0.
