Meet the Gators: Corey Robinson
Friday, January 7, 2022 | Baseball
With less than 50 days until the Feb. 18 season opener, Florida's Meet the Gators series has reached its penultimate installation in the form of freshman outfielder Corey Robinson. Hailing from Spruce Creek High School in Port Orange, Fla., Robinson is set to don No. 1 for the Gators in his debut campaign.
Recently ranked as the No. 1 recruiting class in the country by Perfect Game, Florida's 2021 incoming class features 16 freshmen and one four-year college transfer. Robinson stands as a top-200 player in the class himself, ranking as the No. 165 player nationally while coming in as the No. 22 overall recruit and No. 5 outfielder in the state.
In Florida's Oct. 23 fall doubleheader against Georgia Southern, Robinson drew one walk and scored one run for the Gators in four trips to the plate. He also added a sacrifice bunt and helped power the Orange & Blue to a 7-6 victory in game two.
Playing under head coach Matt Cleveland at Spruce Creek, Robinson was named Perfect Game Preseason All-Region First Team in consecutive seasons from 2020-21. During those years, the right-handed hitting Robinson slashed .312/.387/.522 with four home runs, three triples, five doubles, 33 runs and 10 RBI.
Although gifted both in the batter's box and in the field, Robinson is exceptionally skilled on the base paths. During his senior 2021 season, the fleet-footed outfielder swiped 15 bases in 32 games en route to powering Spruce Creek to a state runner-up finish.
Robinson also suited up for Scorpions Baseball from 2017-21, collecting all-tournament team honors on seven separate occasions. He was invited to the Perfect Game Junior National Showcase in 2019 and later to PG's National Showcase in 2020.
Corey is the son of Terry Robinson, who played college football at Florida State from 1984-85. He has two older sisters, Amber and Jessica. Robinson intends to major in journalism at the University of Florida.
