Alex Watkins Added to Gators Strength and Conditioning Staff

Watkins arrives after spending two seasons at Mississippi State as a strength and conditioning coach.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Alex Watkins was added to the Gators strength and conditioning staff as an assistant by head coach Billy Napier on Thursday.

He arrives from Mississippi State where he spent the last two seasons (2020-21) as a strength and conditioning coach after serving as the assistant director of athletic performance for football at UAB in 2019. Watkins was head strength and conditioning for football at Texas Southern from 2016-18 and the head of the department for Stillman College from 2014-16.

Watkins played defensive line for the University of Alabama from 2007-11 and was part of two National Championship teams in 2009 and 2011.

Following his collegiate career, he signed as a free agent with the Tennessee Titans in 2012 and also the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL) a year later.
