Batting second in the 2022 Meet the Gators series is transfer infielder Dale Thomas, who comes to Florida after three seasons at Coastal Carolina. As a native of De Leon Springs, Fla., Thomas attended Bishop Moore High School during his prep years. He will wear No. 1 for the Orange & Blue.
Fresh off 2022 All-Sun Belt Second Team honors, Thomas set career highs last season in games started (59), games played (59), hits (62), batting average (.284), slugging (.688), home runs (13), triples (two), doubles (15), runs (49), RBI (49) and stolen bases (five). All told, he slashed .281/.376/.481 across his Coastal Carolina career with 18 homers, three triples, 19 doubles, 84 runs, 75 RBI and eight steals while posting a .951 fielding percentage.
Going back to his Bishop Moore days, Thomas starred as a two-sport athlete in baseball and football. In his senior campaign, he hit .323 with four home runs and nine doubles. As a result, Thomas finished with a .317 career batting average, 23 extra-base hits, 60 runs and 37 RBI across his three-year prep career.
Thomas was named a 2019 5A-8 All-District Team selection at shortstop while collecting Gold Glove Awards in consecutive seasons from 2018-19. Thanks to his standout performance, he helped power Bishop Moore to three-straight district championships.
In 2019, Thomas was tabbed a Perfect Game Preseason All-American and Preseason Florida All-Region selection after receiving PG Preseason Underclass All-American Honorable Mention status the year prior. From 2018-19, he was a PG Top Prospect Team member.
As the son of Dennis and Michelle Thomas, Dale has one brother, Jonathan, and one sister, Kirsten. He is pursuing his master's degree in entrepreneurship at the University of Florida. Following graduation, Thomas' goal is to become a Navy Seal.
