Two-way talent Yoel Tejeda Jr. posted a 15-0 career record at North Broward Prep with a 1.40 ERA and 145 strikeouts while batting .360 with six homers and 90 RBI.
In the cleanup spot for the 2022 Meet the Gators series is freshman right-handed pitcher/first baseman Yoel Tejeda Jr. of Davie, Fla. Following a stellar career at North Broward Preparatory School, Tejeda Jr. will wear No. 17 for the Orange & Blue.
Prior to his arrival in Gainesville, Tejeda Jr. was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 19th round of the 2022 MLB Draft. He ultimately brought his talents to the Gators and has quickly made a strong impression during the fall practice season.
As a two-way talent at North Broward, Tejeda Jr. was a four-time letterwinner under coaches Brian Campbell and Brandon Cooney. He earned four sets of All-Area, All-City and All-Sections honors from 2019-22, culminating with All-State and All-America status as a senior. During that final prep season, Tejeda Jr. went 8-0 on the mound with a 1.82 ERA, .178 batting average against and 90 strikeouts in 61 2/3 frames. He also batted .355/.475/.612 with four homers, 30 RBI, 28 runs and 10 steals.
Across his four-year career, Tejeda Jr. pitched to a 15-0 record with a 1.40 ERA and 145 strikeouts. In the batter's box, the two-way star posted a .360 average with six homers and 90 RBI. Equally as driven off the field, Tejeda Jr. was an academic honor roll recipient at North Broward.
Tejeda Jr. also competed for X Team Baseball and the San Francisco Giants Scout Team during his prep years. From 2017-22, he was named to 10 different Perfect Game All-Tournament Teams. Coming into college, Tejeda Jr. was ranked by PG as the No. 52 overall player nationally on top of being the No. 12 recruit in Florida.
As the son of Yoel Tejeda and Maria Pereira, Yoel has one sister, Natali. He intends to major in sport management at the University of Florida.
