Winning Woman: Jasmine Moore Refuses To Be Outworked

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Jasmine Moore wakes up with a clear mindset: there is no way anyone wants to succeed more than me.
Determined. Fierce. Strong.
Moore is all the above — and more. She's a student-athlete. She's an Olympian. She's a first-year Gator.
As a freshman in high school, Moore realized that she could be successful in track and field after she won a state championship. She is a prodigy of former collegiate track athletes. Her mother ran track for Florida State University, and her father ran for Western Michigan.
Moore recalls not always loving the sport, but then she started jumping. And, the rest is history.
As a former competitive cheerleader in her adolescent years, her coach often said, "whoever works the hardest and wants it the most deserves to win." Years later, the phrase sticks with Moore as one of the country's top young jumpers in women's college track and field.
"The goal is always to work the hardest," Moore said.

And she has already experienced the fruits of her hard work. The five Olympic rings tattooed on Moore's right arm represent one of her most significant accomplishments in her career.
"Definitely going to the Olympics was probably like my biggest accomplishment so far in college," Moore said.
She reflected on the moment she hit the Olympic standard. According to trackandfieldnews.com, the Olympic standard for the long jump was 6.82 meters, and for the triple jump, 14.32 meters.
"After I landed and the competition was over, I just started crying because it's something that I've wanted so bad," Moore said.
Moore opened a new chapter soon after returning home from Tokyo, joining Florida's track and field team. She transferred from Georgia, where she spent two seasons.
She fit in right away.
"It's just having so many people that have the same goals as you and just being around the so many people that care about you," she said.
Coach Nic Petersen, Florida's assistant jumps coach, said Moore has improved on her technique at Florida in her quest to be the best that she can possibly be.
"But that's who she is. She gets up and works hard every single day," he said. "She's definitely one of the hardest workers we've ever had around here."
The UF men's and women's track teams are in Texas this week, Moore's home state. She attended Lake Ridge High in Mansfield, Texas. The Gators are competing in the 2022 SEC Indoor Championships on the Texas A&M campus in College Station.
Heading into the weekend meet where her family and high school coaches will be cheering her on, Moore's goal is to respond when it's go-time. She hopes to build confidence in her long jump and execute everything she has practiced.
"And, of course, I would love to win," Moore said.
