Florida Finishes Fourth, Biondi Notches Runner-Up
Tuesday, March 1, 2022 | Men's Golf
Fred Biondi, Ricky Castillo and Yuxin Lin all finished under par for the tournament in back-to-back outings.
LAS VEGAS - The Florida men's golf team finished fourth at 20-under in the Southern Highlands Collegiate on Tuesday.
No. 1 and last year's national runner-up, Oklahoma (-38) won the event as the field featured nine of the nation's top-35 teams.
Fred Biondi led the Gators again with a runner-up finish at 11-under for the event. He sank an eagle on hole three and went 2-under for his six straight round under-par. The junior has ended -14 and -11 in the last two outings.
Both Yuxin Lin (-1) and Ricky Castillo (-9) posted back-to-back tournaments under-par. Castillo shot his second 67 (-5) of the event as he has record three top-10 (T4-2-T7) finishes this spring.
Bouncing back in his final round, Giovanni Manzoni erased a double bogey on three with back-to-back birdies to end 1-under for T41 and even overall.
Rounding out the lineup Quentin Debove (+2) and John DuBois (+2) each tied for 50th.
Two tournaments - Linger Longer (March 20-22) and the Calusa Cup (April 3-5) - remain before the SEC Championship at St. Simons Island from April 19-24.

On the team's performance...
"A fantastic week in Las Vegas. We played solid and made a ton of birdies. The guys hit so many good shots this week and played discipline. Unfortunately, we struggled on the back nine yesterday and it cost us a chance to win the golf tournament, but it's really hard to win every week."
On what the team can takeaway from this outing...
"The thing I am most encouraged about is our response to a ton of adversity around the turn today. We had three double bogeys and a bogey on hole 10 today and could have let whole week slip. We played some of our best golf after that and I think it says a lot about our team. We are getting better and will continue to work hard to close the gap."
On the Southern Highlands Collegiate...
"We are very thankful to everyone at Southern Highlands who put on an amazing event. Each year this tournament has the best field on a course that challenges every part of a players' game. We are grateful to be a part of it."
