GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Nine members of the Florida women's swimming & diving team were invited to compete at the NCAA Championships in Atlanta, Ga., as the organization announced Wednesday.
The Championships will be held March 16-19 at the McAuley Center in Atlanta, with Georgia Tech serving as the host institution.
Anna Auld, Talia Bates, Elise Bauer, Leah DeGeorge, Kathleen Golding, Tylor Mathieu, Ekaterina Nikonova, Amanda Ray and Mabel Zavaros advanced to the national championships based on their season-best times in seven different events.
Four relays also qualified for the NCAA Championships, with the 200 free relay and the 400 free relay hitting the qualifying standard. Both the 800 free relay and the 400 medley relay qualified with provisional standard times.
The Gators bring a plethora of NCAA experience to the meet, with Bates, Bauer, Golding, Mathieu and Ray all having competed at the championships in their careers.
Senior Rosie Zavaros was selected as an alternate in the 400 IM, with her season-best swim coming in at 4:11.93.
Although they were not invited to NCAAs other events, each Gator can potentially add an optional event in which they have met the minimum time standard. The other events in which the invited swimmers have recorded B standard times can be found here.
After NCAA Zones, the women have a potential to add divers to the NCAA women's roster. Diving invitations will be announced on Thursday, March 10 after the conclusion of all five diving zone meets.
A total of 322 participants (281 swimmers and 41 divers) will compete in the championships. Swimmers qualified for the championships by meeting the established minimum time for the events in which they entered. Divers will be determined by performances achieved at the Zone Diving Championships held March 7-9. The complete lists of all swimmers (athletes by institution, official psych sheet, relays and alternates) competing in the championships is available at usaswimming.org/ncaa.
ESPN3 will provide digital broadcast coverage for preliminary and finals sessions Wednesday through Saturday. Additionally, ESPNU will air a two-hour show at 7 p.m. Eastern time, Wednesday, March 30.
