GAINESVILLE, Fla. — First and foremost, the Florida Gators face a monumental challenge Saturday in facing the loaded and seventh-ranked Kentucky Wildcats in the 2021-22 regular-season finale for both teams. The Gators (19-12, 9-8) not only on the NCAA Tournament "bubble," but listing to wrong side of it. They need a few more wins; good, high-quality wins, the likes of which a visit from the Wildcats (24-6, 13-4) provides. UK, of course, will not come to town with any sympathies toward the home team. Not with a potential No. 1 seed in the NCAA field in the Cats' hands.
There's a bunch on the table for both teams, so there's that.
Now roll in "Senior Day" recognitions for the home. Florida will not — count 'em — a whopping seven players who very likely will be making their final appearances on the floor at Exactech Arena. Pregame salutes to Colin Castleton, Tyree Appleby, Anthony Duruji, Myreon Jones, Phlandrous Fleming Jr., and Brandon McKissic — with 245 games and 2,475 points worth of service wearing orange and blue, and what they've done for the Gators this season — will make for quite a jam-packed tribute.
And then Keyontae Johnson will be introduced.
Clearly, there will be a lot going on at the O'Dome, and a lot to impact in the aftermath.
"I could go on for a while about this group," UF coach Mike White said.

Johnson's last game as a Gator was Dec. 12, 2020 at Florida State. Everyone knows what happened that day and what Johnson, his teammates and coaches endured in the days, weeks, months that followed. He's a been a loyal soldier — a sort of de facto grad assistant — for the team ever since.
The 6-foot-5, 231-pounder from Virginia, Johnson was an instant impact player. He moved into the starting lineup midway through his freshman season due to an injury and owned the spot for the next nearly two years, earning first-team All-SEC honors as a sophomore, then entering the '20-21 season as the league's preseason player of the year. He was averaging 16.0 points, shooting 64 percent from the floor, nearly 38 percent from the 3-point line and making just shy of 79 percent of his free throws was tragedy struck.
He'll walk on to the O'Dome floor once more Saturday, this time into the arms of his mother, father, siblings, teammates and, no doubt, the metaphoric arms of the Gator Nation.
"This was my dream school, so it's going to be special for me to see how much the people appreciate what I did," Johnson said. "Yeah, I'll probably cry."
He thought about it.
"No, I'll definitely cry."
He won't be the only one.
Here's a look at the seven seniors what they've accomplished at Florida date … with still more out there for the taking.
