Sunday, April 24, 2022 | Softball
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The eighth-ranked Florida softball program fell 2-0 in the series finale Sunday afternoon to No. 7 Arkansas at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
The Gators (35-12, 11-10 SEC) and the Razorbacks (35-8, 14-4 SEC) found themselves in the midst of another pitchers' duel to close out the series between starters Elizabeth Hightower (12-5) and Chenise Delce (13-2).
However, Arkansas was able to take the lead early in the second inning of action as leadoff batter Danielle Gibson lifted an inside pitch over the left field wall for the first run of the game. Hightower settled in to retire the next three batters via back-to-back strikeouts and a popup to Sarah Longley at shortstop.
The Razorbacks scratched across an additional insurance run in the sixth frame to extend their lead out to 2-0. With the bases loaded and two outs, KB Sides scored unearned run via a defensive miscue on the Gators infield.
Hightower pitched 5 1/3 innings and held Arkansas' potent offense to just two hits, two walks, and one earned run, while junior Rylee Trlicek hurled 1 1/3 innings in relief and only allowed two hits. Freshman Lexie Delbrey entered the game with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to record the final out of the frame.
