Ricky Castillo shot a 65 (-7) to lead the field as the Gators finished 12-under on day one in Naples.
NAPLES, Fla. - The No. 13/16 Florida men's golf team and Ricky Castillo lead the field after day one of the Calusa Cup on Sunday.
The Gators shot 12-under to hold a five stroke advantage over No. 11 Georgia Tech (-7).
Castillo (1st) closed out his round with his team-leading fourth eagle to end 7-under 65. He went bogey-free and 5-under on the back with team-high six birdies on the day.
Shooting his seventh round in the 60s, Fred Biondi ended T5. The redshirt junior is tied for second among the competition with 13 pars as he sank four birdies.
Tyler Wilkes (T9) carded a 70 (-2) and set the pace, as he was the first Gator to finish at Calusa Pines Golf Club. He started his round with a birdie and added another on three to push UF out to the lead.
Back-to-back birdies on the back from John DuBois (T17) helped him sit even overall as Yuxin Lin (T21) was a stroke behind with a 73 (+1).
All five in the lineup are in the top-25 and tee off round two tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. ET.
