Florida is tied for fifth as four strokes or less separate teams second through fifth.
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - The Florida men's golf team concluded day one of the NCAA Palm Beach Regional on Monday.
The Gators shot a 294 (+6) and are tied for fifth with College of Charleston as only a few strokes sit between second-place South Florida (+2), third-place Notre Dame (+4) and fourth-place Davidson (+5). Vanderbilt, the reigning SEC Champions, lead the field at 3-under.
Two more days of stroke play remain as the top five teams as well as the top individual finisher not on an advancing team will advance to the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., from May 27-June 1.
If the tournament ended today, the Gators and Cougars would play a sudden-death playoff with all five scores counting for the final advancing spot.
Fred Biondi posted the top finish behind a 72 (E) to end tied for 10th. He tied for a team-high four birdies on the day as he went 1-under on the front nine.
Both tied for 15th, sit John DuBois and Yuxin Lin. DuBois started the round and ended with birdie as the lineup went -4 on hole 18. He erased a double-bogey with his fourth eagle of the season on six (par 5, 488 yards) behind an excellent approach shot for the putt as the Gators shot 11-under on par-5s - 10 birdies, one eagle and bogey.
Also starting and wrapping up his round with a birdie, Tyler Wilkes (T41) shot a 76 (+4) followed by Ricky Castillo (T46) with a 77 (+5).
Florida tees off round two tomorrow at PGA National at 8 a.m. ET on hole 10 and will be paired with College of Charleston and Davidson.
