GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Men's and Women's Track and Field teams will each take a No. 4 ranking into this week's NCAA East Prelims, the USTFCCCA announced on Monday afternoon.
Â
This week's rankings were based solely on accepted entries to NCAA preliminary meets across the country.
Â
Florida's men and women will both take 23 entries to Bloomington this week with hopes of qualifying to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Â
The Gators will have the top two seeds in both the Long Jump (
Jasmine Moore and
Claire Bryant) and Triple Jump (
Jasmine Moore and
Natricia Hooper) on the women's side.
Â
Florida's men will take the fastest 4x100 and 4x400 relays into Bloomington this week. The Gators swept the relays on the men's side at the SEC Outdoor Championships and will be among the favorites at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, should they advance.
Â
The Gators had seven event titles at the SEC Outdoor Championships. Along with the men's relays, Moore swept gold in the Long Jump and Triple Jump.
Â
Sterling Lester (Heptathlon),
Imogen Barrett (800 meters) and
Champion Allison (400 meters) also won gold in individual events.
Â
The Top-48 entries in all individual events in both regions, excluding the Heptathlon and Decathlon, will contest this week. The Top-12 individuals from both regions will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships to comprise a field of 24 in Eugene.
Â
The Top-24 teams in both regions will contest each of the relays with the Top-12 teams from each region advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Â
Because the Heptathlon isn't contested at the preliminary level,
Anna Hall and Lester both qualified automatically to Oregon in the event.
Â
Action for Florida will open up Wednesday (5/25) with the First Round of Men's Competition.
