Biondi Continues Breakout Year; Qualifies for U.S. Open

Fred Biondi is set to play in his first major at the U.S. Open next weekend 
 
JUPITER, Fla. - Fred Biondi continues his breakout year as he qualified for his first major appearance at the U.S. Open next weekend. 

After finishing runner-up at the Latin America Amateur Championship (LAAC), he earned a spot in the final qualifying stage for the open at The Club at Admiral's Cover (Jupiter, Fla.). Featuring 36 holes on one day, Biondi used a second round of 67 (-4) to end 3-under and secure a final spot over Rickie Fowler. He was the only amateur out of the four advancing players. 

The 122nd U.S. Open will take place June 16-19 at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. More information about the event can be found here. 

Biondi will become the third current Gator to play in a major championship joining Ricky Castillo (U.S. Open - 2020) and Yuxin Lin (Masters 2018, 2020 and The Open 2018, 2020, 2021).

  • Second on the team in birdies (103) and eagles (4) 
  • Have posted 15 of 28 rounds under-par this season
    • 14 out of 25 in the spring
    • 12 rounds in the 60s total and 11 in the spring 
    • A stretch of eight consecutive under-par rounds
  • Only six rounds over par this spring and eight this year
  • Went undefeated (2-0-1) in match play at the SEC Championship
    • Victories in the semifinals (4&3) and finals (2&1)
