Gators Place 124 on SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida placed 124 student-athletes on the 2022 Southeastern Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll, announced today by league commissioner Greg Sankey.
The 2022 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2021-22 summer, fall and spring terms. Florida placed 299 student-athletes on 2021-22 SEC Fall, Winter and Spring Academic Honor Rolls.
Florida's women's track & field team, winners of the NCAA Indoor & Outdoor and SEC Outdoor titles - had 25 on the Academic Honor Roll – its highest total since placing 23 on the 2013, 2012 and 2005 list. For the second consecutive season, Gators lacrosse raised their all-time record for SEC Academic Honor Roll, with 30 on the 2022 list. Softball's 14 honorees was one away from its record set last season. Seven from Florida's 2022 SEC champion men's tennis team earned a spot on the 2022 honor roll. Other sport honoree numbers included baseball (16), men's golf (7), women's golf (5), women's tennis (4) and men's track & field (16).
Notes About Gator Honorees:
To be recognized to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.

- The SEC Academic Honor Roll includes the league's tennis players of the year, Gators McCartney Kessler and Ben Shelton. Shelton, the 2022 NCAA Singles champion, is this season's National Player of the Year.
- Florida's three who claimed American Athletic Conference lacrosse player of the year honors earned spots on SEC Academic Honor Roll: Danielle Pavinelli (Attacker of the Year), Sarah Reznick (Goalkeeper) and Emma Wightman (Defender).
- Talitha Diggs swept the NCAA indoor and outdoor 400 meters titles. She also advances to the 2022 World Championships as the U.S.'s 400 meters champion.
- Track & field's Parker Valby, who was the 2021 SEC Cross Country Freshman of the Year and NCAA Outdoor 5,000 meters runner-up, also appears on the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
- SEC Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of 2022 is Sam Riffice. He also receive a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship as a nominees for the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete of Year award.
- Softball's Charla Echols earned a spot on the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America team for the second consecutive season.
- Track & Field's Payton Capes-Davis graduated summa cum laude in May. Cum laude graduates in May included Sarah Reznick (lacrosse), Sam Riffice (tennis), Maeson Tydings (lacrosse), Emma Wightman (lacrosse) and Marlee Zein (tennis).
- Emily Lortz (lacrosse) and Cheyenne Young (women's track & field) turned in 4.0 grade point averages for the 2021-22 academic year.
