Press Conference | Napier: 'I've Got A Ton Of Confidence In What We Do And How We Do It'

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Gators head coach Billy Napier, less than 48 hours after Saturday's disappointing loss at Kentucky, was back in front of the media for his regularly scheduled Monday press conference.
The tone was similar to Napier's remarks after the 22nd-ranked Gators fell behind early on the way to a 33-14 loss to the Wildcats, knocking them out of the AP Top 25 with Vanderbilt set to visit Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Saturday.
"There's no sugarcoating it. We started slow in the game. We took punches. We contributed to the issue by making mistakes, and the next thing you know, we're down three scores,'' Napier said. "We're on the road in the SEC, and we're in a dogfight. We can coach better. We can play better.
"Ultimately, we've turned the page, and that's exactly what we're focused on. After meeting with the leadership group, I think there is urgency. And certainly being with the staff all day yesterday, there's urgency to do everything better."
Napier faced numerous questions Monday about what went wrong at Kentucky and larger questions around the program. The Gators (3-2, 1-1) are 9-9 in 18 games with Napier at the helm and have a difficult schedule ahead.
While the outside perception of his team may have changed since the Gators upset Tennessee, Napier and his staff are hunkered down with a business-as-usual approach. Napier said he will continue calling plays and that there is a lot of season ahead.
"We know what winning football looks like," he said. "I've got a ton of confidence in what we do and how we do it. We didn't play well Saturday, but that doesn't change my belief in what we do and how we do it."
