Barry added another gold medal to his 3x3 playing career with USA Basketball.
Canyon Barry and the USA 3x3 Men's Basketball Team brought home gold at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, defeating the host nation in the gold medal game.
Â
The U.S. trailed 5-0 early, but Barry got the scoring going with a two-pointer beyond the arc. He led all scorers with eight points, teaming up in the victorious effort with Jimmer Fredette, Kareem Maddox and Dylan Travis.
Â
The U.S. team defeated El Salvador and Mexico in pool play before topping Uruguay in the quarterfinals and Trinidad & Tobago in the semifinals to set up the gold medal tilt against the hosts.
Â
Barry has been an active part of the USA 3x3 Men's Basketball Team for several years, with a 2019 3x3 World Cup gold medal highlighting his tenure.
At Florida for the 2016-17 season as a graduate transfer, Canyon Barry was the Southeastern Conference Sixth Man of the Year and the national Academic All-America Player of the Year while helping the Gators to an NCAA Elite Eight run.
Â
Different than 5-on-5, 3x3 is played on a half-court with a 10-minute game clock and 12-second shot clock. Play is continuous, as teams "clear" the ball behind the 2-point line following a made basket, defensive rebound or steal. The first team to score 21 points via 1-point field goals or 2-pointers behind the arc is victorious; or if time expires then the team leading wins.
