Press Conference | Napier Seeks Complementary Football, Previews Missouri

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Gators head coach Billy Napier, about 36 hours removed from Saturday night's loss at LSU, was back in front of the cameras on Monday afternoon.
Florida (5-5, 3-4) hits the road for its Southeastern Conference finale on Saturday at No. 11 Missouri (8-2, 4-2). The Gators need a victory to become bowl-eligible and to clinch a .500 record in conference play for the first time since 2020.
It won't be easy against a Tigers team coming off a 36-7 thrashing of Tennessee at home. The Gators fell 52-35 at LSU on Saturday while surrendering a program-record 701 yards.
While the defense has struggled the past four games, Napier said various issues have played a role in Florida's three-game losing streak.
"We need to play better complementary football. Ultimately, that's our issue," he said. "It isn't just one unit. We have to put all parts of our team together. At this point where we're at, that's the issue. The defense shows up, and the offense doesn't. Not just week to week, but half to half or quarter to quarter.
"Consistency is what we're seeking, and I do think we need to continue to develop players. We need to see improvement from players, and we need to eliminate some of the mistakes that have nothing to do with the opponent. I think that's my struggle. That's what I think about ... that's what I'm consumed with right now."
Florida defeated Missouri 24-17 at home in Napier's first season. They must contend with Tigers quarterback Brady Cook and transfer running back Cody Schrader on Saturday. Both players performed well against the Vols and Schrader leads the SEC in rushing with 1,124 yards.
"Mizzou's got a good football team. They play complementary football,'' Napier said. "They're getting incrementally better."
