Denzel Aberdeen and the Gators will face Richmond in December

It marks the Gators’ 23rd appearance in the South Florida event
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida men's basketball returns to the Orange Bowl Classic on Dec. 9, 2023, and will square off against Richmond at FLA Live Arena in Sunrise.
The Florida-Richmond game will be part of a doubleheader, with Florida State and South Florida also set to face off. Game times and television information will be announced at a later date.
It marks the first time the Gators will compete in the Orange Bowl Classic under second-year head coach Todd Golden, and UF holds an all-time 18-4 record in the event.
The Gators return two of their three leading scorers from last year's team in Will Richard (10.4 ppg) and SEC All-Freshman honoree Riley Kugel (9.9 ppg), along with an elite transfer class that rates as high as No. 1 in the nation (EvanMiya.com).
Florida is 3-2 all-time against Richmond, winning the last two meetings in Gainesville after Richmond topped UF in the 2009 Orange Bowl Classic. Richmond will become just the second two-time Orange Bowl Classic opponent for the Gators, joining Charlotte (2001 and 2016).
