Press Conference | Gators Turning Page, Carroll Out for Season, More Napier Updates

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Gators head coach Billy Napier met with reporters Saturday afternoon, less than 24 hours after his team held its second scrimmage of preseason camp Friday afternoon at The Swamp.

"I think we have turned the page relative to training camp,'' Napier said.

Napier said competition remains intense heading toward the Aug. 31 opener at Utah in 12 days. Unfortunately for the Gators, the running back group lost a key member in Tulane transfer Cam Carroll. Carroll suffered a season-ending knee injury in Friday's scrimmage, Napier said.

"It hits you right in the gut,'' Napier said of losing players to injury.

The Gators return to practice Monday as they prepare for the season opener at Utah, a rematch of last season's season opener at The Swamp that Florida won 29-26.
