Sophie Stevens Named SEC Freshman Golfer of the Week

The Highland, Mich. native finished T7 and led the Gators to the team title at the Glass City Invitational.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Florida women's golfer Sophie Stevens was named the SEC Freshman Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced.
Stevens helped lead the Gators to their first victory of the season on Tuesday at the Glass City Invitational. She was playing in the No. 1 spot this week after a team-best T15 in the season opener.
The Highland, Mich. native finished tied for 7th with a 54-hole score of 216 (E). Stevens averaged 2.67 on par 3s and 4.89 on par 5s at Inverness Club. Battling through rainy and windy conditions, she recorded 37 pars and nine birdies with a 1-under 71 in round two.
Her selection of freshman of the week is Florida's first since Clara Manzalini in 2019. In the final round, Stevens had a great approach shot on 15 (par-4, 389) that setup for birdie, which she followed with another on 16 to shoot a 72 (E).
