Thursday, October 24, 2024 | Baseball
Leading off for the Orange & Blue in the 2024 Meet the Gators series is transfer outfielder/infielder Blake Cyr, who comes to Florida after two standout seasons at Miami. The Windermere, Fla. native is set to rep No. 5 for the Gators.
Cyr holds status as Florida's highest-ranked prospect for the 2025 MLB Draft, as well as UF's top incoming transfer. According to Baseball America, he is the No. 40 college prospect for the MLB Draft and No. 10 impact transfer nationally.
Playing in 85 games for the Hurricanes from 2023-24, Cyr batted a combined .298/.418/.593 backed by 24 homers, 15 doubles and 84 RBI. He burst onto the scene with Freshman All-American honors in 2023, delivering a .305/.427/.620 batting line with 17 long balls. The highlight of his rookie year came against Florida, when he hammered two home runs and drove in seven to finish one RBI shy of Miami's freshman single-game record. Although he missed time due to injury as a sophomore, Cyr made a successful defensive transition to left field and managed to post a strong .933 OPS and seven big flies in just 25 games.
As a three-year letterwinner for Eric Lassiter at Windermere High School, Cyr helped lead the Wolverines to the Class 7A District 5 Championship and Metro West title his senior year. Cyr earned All-Metro honors in his final campaign, batting .375 and driving in 21 runs. Over his final two seasons, he hit .342 across 48 games while tallying eight home runs, three triples, 16 doubles, 63 runs, 29 RBI and 29 steals.
Entering college, Cyr was tabbed by Perfect Game as the No. 150 recruit and No. 34 shortstop in his class, including the No. 29 player and No. 5 shortstop in Florida.
To go along with Consensus Freshman All-American honors in 2023, Cyr was named to the All-ACC Freshman Team and All-ACC Academic Team as a rookie at Miami.
