AUBURN, Ala. – Records, records and more records were broken during the second day of the 2024 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships, as The No. 4/3 Florida men's and women's swimming and diving teams broke 11 records to collect four gold and one silver medal on Tuesday inside the James E. Martin Aquatic Center.
The women's 200 medley relay team opened final's session with an A-cut time of 1:34.25 to give the women's program their first 200 medley relay gold in 14 years and Florida's first gold medal in championship action.
Aris Runnels,
Molly Mayne,
Olivia Peoples and
Micayla Cronk swam .01 shy from the pool record and recorded the second-best time in program history.
The men's 200 medley relay team followed with a show of their own, setting a new American record with 1:21.66.
Adam Chaney,
Julian Smith,
Scotty Buff and
Macguire McDuff broke the pool record to earn the program's 11th, 200 medley relay title.
Bella Sims led off the women's 800 freestyle relay team and broke the program's 200 free relay record, the SEC record and the SEC Meet record with her 1:40.90 split.
Isabel Ivey followed and matched Sims' energy by recording a 1:42.19. The relay itself set new SEC, SEC Meet, program and pool records with the help of
Emma Weyant (1:43.33) and
Micayla Cronk (1:43.23).
In the final relay of the night,
Macguire McDuff's 800 freestyle relay split (1:31.62) is the second-best time in program history behind Kieran Smith's 1:29.48. McDuff,
Joshua Liendo (1:31.45),
Julian Smith (1:32.10) and
Jake Mitchell (1:31.19) would go on to complete the relay sweep with a 6:06.36 time, which is a new SEC, SEC Meet, program and pool record.
Diving
In her first final event of her collegiate career,
Ana Monroy captured silver in the women's 3-meter event. The freshman scored a 69.75 in her third round and kept the momentum in the final three rounds to finish with 357.60.
Â
For the first time in SEC Championship history, team diving events were added to the meet. Each team has three divers who combine to complete a six-dive list, comprising a dive from each group and no more than two from any of the various apparatuses (1-meter, 3-meter and platform). The sum of the six dives creates the team score but is marked exhibition for this year's championships and does not count towards the final team score.
Skip Donald,
Peyton Donald and
Conor Gesing represented Florida and finished first with a score of 353.65. Headed into the sixth and final dive, the Gators were sitting in fifth place, Gesing's last dive scored 76.50 to climb all the way to No. 1.
Â
Head Diving Coach Bryan Gillooly
"Another great and exciting night for Gator Diving. Men came away with a win in the exhibition team event and got some good competition reps in which will pay off in the individual events. Camyla continues her amazing freshman season with a runner up finish to a super talented senior from LSU. With just two events down I can't wait to see what the rest of the week has in store for us."
Â
Notables:
- NC State notably broke the American record only 30-minutes prior (1:21.86) until the Gators erased it with their 1:21.66.
- The 11-year 200 yard medley relay record was previously 1:21.88 that had held since 2018 in the hands of Cal's Daniel Carr, Connor Hoppe, Justin Lynch and Ryan Hoffer.
- Ivey and Sims previously broke the 200 free record two weeks ago at the Florida Invitational with Ivey clocking a 1:43.03 and Sims a 1:43.04.
- Florida recorded all A-cut times and one B-score
- The Gators broke three program records, three pool records, two SEC records and two SEC Meet recordsÂ

Hear from the Winning Gators
Â
Olivia Peoples, Florida, Women's 200 Medley Relay
"We've been really zoned in on our relays all year. We are super excited to finally win SEC's. This relay has had a long time coming for it and we're just super stoked to be here and start the night off on a high note."
Â
Scotty Buff, Florida, Men's 200 Medley Relay
"It feels great. This is my first SEC'S ever. The atmosphere here is incredible, but how my team has prepared me for this and how the coaches have prepared me for this helped me to be able to be on a relay team like that at my first SEC's and race my guys that I practice with everyday."
Â
Bella Sims, Florida Women's 800 Freestyle Relay
"Obviously, I love this team. We've all put in a lot of work, so I'm super proud of us and I'm excited for the rest of the meet."
Â
Jake Mitchell, Florida Men's 800 Freestyle Relay
"Pretty happy and excited to get to the wall first for Florida. I knew it was going to be a close race. Georgia swam well. I saw my teammate right before I hopped up on the block and I knew I had to get it done for them. So, I am glad I got to do that."
