Three former Gators notched Top-20 Finishes in PGA and Korn Ferry Tour events
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – It was a great weekend for former Gators playing pro golf with three golfers finishing in the top-20 across the PGA and Korn Ferry Tour.
PGA Golfers
The Gators were well represented in Palm Beach this weekend with five golfers competing in the Cognizant Classic; Billy Horschel (T-9), Tyson Alexander (T-16), Camilo Villegas (T-67), Fred Biondi (Cut) and Alejandro Tosti (Cut).
Horschel had his best finish of the young 2024 season cracking the top 10 after shooting 12 under for the weekend. Horschel's best two rounds came on Thursday and Sunday shooting five under (66) on each end of the tournament.
Tyson Alexander also had a season best finish coming in at T-16. The 14-year pro finished his weekend off shooting a bogey free round four which included five birdies.
Korn Ferry Tour Golfers
Ricky Castillo (T-13) and T.J .Vogel (Cut) represented Florida on the Korn Ferry this weekend. Castillo notched his fourth straight top-20 finish on the Korn Ferry.
The first-year pro's weekend got off to a hot start shooting back-to-back rounds of 66 (-4), both of which included bogey free front nines. Castillo would go on to shoot a 68 (-2) on each of the next two rounds securing his T-13 finish.
The 2023 National Champion has had an excellent start to the season, making four straight cuts which is tied for eighth across Korn Ferry golfers.
What's Next
Florida will have three golfers in the Puerto Rico Open this weekend. Alejandro Tosti (7:07 a.m.), Yuxin Lin (7:07 a.m.), Camilo Villegas (11:08 a.m.), Chris Nido (11:41 a.m.) and Fred Biondi (12:25 p.m.) will all be teeing off in Rio Grande on Thursday.
The Gators also return to action on the Korn Ferry Tour where Ricky Castillo (10:55 a.m.) and T.J .Vogel (11:45 a.m.) will compete in the Astara Chile Classic.
Over on the Champions Tour, Brian Gay (12:10 p.m.), Chris DiMarco (12:32 p.m.) and Mark Calcavecchia (1:05 p.m.) are set to play in the Cologuard Classic.
Florida returns to play at the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga. The three-day event begins on March 15 at Forest Heights.
