Florida owns a four shot lead at 5-under with Jack Turner and Tyler Wilkes tied for second.
NAPLES, Fla. - Back in action after three weeks, the Florida men's golf team picked up where it left off and owns a four-shot lead through round one of the Calusa Cup on Sunday.
The Gators shot a team score of 283 (-5) and was one of two teams to place under par after 18 holes at Calusa Pines Golf Club. Behind Florida is Wake Forest at 1-under and third-place Purdue at 1-over. UF tees off round two tomorrow at 2:15 p.m.
Both Jack Turner and Tyler Wilkes are tied for second behind opening rounds of 3-under 69. Turner started the day with back-to-back birdies and later added his first collegiate eagle on hole 12 (par-4, 468). After the freshman's double on the next hole, Turner went bogey-free and added birdies on 16 and 18.
Wilkes made the turn at -2 and only carded one bogey in his round, coming hole 10. He then made back-to-back birdies on 13 (par-5, 627) and 14 (par-4, 344) for his 12th round of par or better this season.
The next three Gators in the lineup are all in the top-20 with Matthew Kress tied for 11th. He regrouped from an early double bogey on his fourth hole to post a 72 (E). The fourth counting score was in Ian Gilligan's 73 (+1), who ended strong with a birdie on 18 for his 100th of the season and sits T15.
Parker Bell had a round one of 74 (+2) and is tied for 20th with Luke Poulter, who is competing as an individual this tournament.
