Langford Records First Cycle on Sunday Night Baseball
Monday, July 1, 2024 | Baseball
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – It took exactly 60 Major League games for Wyatt Langford to hit for the cycle.
On a 1-0 count with the Rangers leading the Orioles, 8-2, in the top of the eighth inning on Sunday Night Baseball, Baltimore reliever Matt Krook spotted a cutter up and in. Langford identified it, fired his hands in and hammered it over the left-field wall for his fourth hit of the night.
With the 404-foot blast, Langford became the first player to ever complete the cycle on Sunday Night Baseball and the second Rangers rookie ever to do so. After flying out in his first at bat, the Trenton, Fla. native tripled to left in the fourth, doubled to right in the fifth and recorded an infield single to shortstop in the sixth.
Langford is the first rookie in MLB history to record a cycle, grand slam and inside-the-park home run in the season. His cycle on Sunday Night Baseball on June 30 marked the first of the 2024 MLB Season and the 11th in Rangers franchise history.
Driving in four runs on the night, Langford finished 4-for-5 with three runs scored. It represented his first-career, four-hit game.
As a result, Langford is now hitting a respectable .260/.322/.390 across his first 245 MLB plate appearances with four homers, four triples, nine doubles, 35 RBI and 25 runs. He has yet to commit an error in The Show.
