GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Four Florida baseball standouts have signed professional contracts with non-Minor League teams following the conclusion of the 2024 MLB Draft in infielder/outfielder Tyler Shelnut, infielder Dale Thomas, right-hander Blake Purnell and infielder Armando Albert.
Both Shelnut and Thomas inked deals with the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League – an MLB Partner League although not officially affiliated with MiLB. Gateway is based in Sauget, Ill. out of the 6,000-seat Grizzlies Ballpark. Shelnut and Thomas each notched their first pro hits this past week.
Also competing in the Frontier League is Albert, who agreed to terms with the Windy City ThunderBolts of Crestwood, Ill. Albert has already appeared in 20 games for the ThunderBolts.
As the lone Gator in the American Association, Purnell finalized a deal with the Milwaukee Milkmen this past week. The American Association is also an MLB Partner League while the Milkmen are based out of Franklin, Wis.
The aforementioned quartet is joined by four Gators who recently agreed to terms with MLB organizations and are beginning their MiLB journeys: two-way player Jac Caglianone (Kansas City Royals), right-handed pitcher Brandon Neely (Boston Red Sox), righty Fisher Jameson (Colorado Rockies) and right-hander Ryan Slater (San Francisco Giants).
