
Gators Tied for Second Through 18 holes at Olympia Fields

Ian Gilligan leads the lineup behind a 2-under 68 and is tied for third.
CHICAGO - The Florida men's golf team is tied for second through 18-holes of the Fighting Illinii Collegiate at Olympia Fields Country Club on Friday.
Due to inclement weather scheduled for Sunday, the tournament will feature continuous play into the third round with the goal of completing the remaining 36 holes of the tournament tomorrow. If teams are unable to complete all 36 holes tomorrow, then teams will complete the remainder on Sunday. UF is set to tee off tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.
Florida had an opening round of 279 (-1) and is tied with Georgia Tech and North Carolina. Arizona State leads the tournament at 7-under overall.
A trio of Gators shot round ones of par or better, led by Ian Gilligan's 2-under 68. He is tied for second in the field with five birdies and sits T3. Gilligan is four back of the individual leaders in Jose Luis Ballester (Arizona State) and Benjamin Reuter (Georgia Tech).
Parker Bell was the second golfer in the lineup to shoot under par with a 1-under 69. He went bogey-free and 2-under on the front nine to close out his round.
Tied for 22nd, Matthew Kress recorded an even par 72 to begin the weekend. He made 16 pars, tied for second in the field and made one birdie and carded just a bogey.
The rest of the lineup features Jack Turner (+2) tied for 37th and Zack Swanwick (+4) tied for 53rd. Competing as individual, Rylan Shim (+5) is tied for 61st.
