Mertz Named Manning Award Star of the Week

The Gator quarterback finished with four touchdowns in Florida’s 45-28 win over Mississippi State.
Florida quarterback Graham Mertz has been named one of eight Manning Award "Stars of the Week" following his performance in the Gators' 45-28 victory over the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
Mertz completed 19 of his 21 pass attempts against the Bulldogs, good for a 90.5% completion percentage, the third-best single-game mark by a quarterback in school history. His combined effort with DJ Lagway (7/7, 100%) made for a 92.8% rate, the highest single-game completion rate in program history. Mertz scored four total touchdowns in the win, three passing and one rushing.
Mertz's four touchdowns brought his career total to 75, 62 in the air and 13 on the ground. He is just the tenth active player in FBS with greater than 60 career passing touchdowns.
College football fans can follow the Manning Award on social media (@ManningAward) to vote for what they think was the best performance from this past weekend. After voting closes on Wednesday at 9 a.m. (Central), the top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week.
Florida's next contest will be in Gainesville on October 5, when the Gators take on UCF.
The Manning Award
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting. Since the Manning Award started recognizing Stars of the Week in 2011, 538 different quarterbacks from 133 schools have been recognized. Sixty-six players were honored during the 2023 season.
