Gators' Strong Performances Earn Three Gold Medals, Gesing Sets School Record in 1-Meter Diving
Friday, February 21, 2025 | Men's Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving
ATHENS, Ga. – The Gators totaled five medals and one school record to cap off day four of the 2025 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Georiga's Gabrielsen Natatorium.
Both programs currently sit second in the team standings after 25 Gators advanced to Thursday's finals session. Florida had at least one swimmer in the championship final, while all three divers secured a spot in the men's 1-meter A final. A total of seven program top-ten times were recorded, with three NCAA A-cut times logged during finals. Additionally, eight Gators placed first in a Championship, B or C final.
Gator diver Conor Gesing earned his second medal of the week, totaling a 412.75 on the men's 1-meter for a school record and Florida's first champion since 2003. The sophomore has now taken home a gold or silver medal on springboard events at the two SEC Championships he has competed in.
Emma Weyant and Josh Liendo both recorded three-peats in their respective finals, as Weyant became the first female to earn a gold for the woman after dominating the 400 IM with season-best 3:59.24. The two-time 400 IM (LCM) Olympic medalist defended her SEC title for the third-straight year, remaining undefeated in the event since joining Florida her sophomore season.
Liendo added gold to his individual medal count after winning his third-straight SEC 100 fly title. The Paris Olympics 100 fly (LCM) silver medalist delivered a 43.23 to reset his SEC Championship record that he lowered during morning prelims. The junior also now owns four of the six fastest 100 fly performances in history. Joining him in the Championship final was sophomore Scotty Buff, who recorded a career-best 44.28 for the third-fastest time in program history. He adds bronze to his silver-medal finish from last year's SECs.
Olivia Peoples made her second-straight podium appearance in the women's 100 fly, going a season-best 50.96 to grab the woman's first silver medal of the week.
Hear from the Gators
Senior Emma Weyant on her performance in the 400 IM:
"It feels great. Last night wasn't really my best showing, so I was really happy to get in there and be better tonight, especially with four Florida girls in the A and two more in the B and C, which is really cool."
Junior Josh Liendo on winning his first individual race this week:
"It felt good to just come in and race and put up a time like that (43.23). It's been a fast meet, so it's been really fun."
Sophomore Conor Gesing on winning Florida's first 1-meter gold since 2003:
"It feels great to know that I'm supported by so many people here, and it's such a close-knit community who all supports each other. It's a really great feeling, and there's nothing like it."
