GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Fresh off collecting Northwoods League MVP honors due to a stellar campaign with the Duluth Huskies, incoming Gators transfer infielder Ethan Surowiec has been named D1Baseball's 2025 Summer Breakout Prospect.
Playing in 58 total NWL games this summer across the regular season and playoffs, Surowiec slashed a thunderous .385/.472/.792 over 221 at bats for a 1.264 OPS. The Gulfport, Miss. native led the league in home runs (20), RBI (74) and slugging percentage while ranking second in batting average.
By season's end, Surowiec totaled three triples, 24 doubles, 54 runs scored, 32 walks and an impressive 17 stolen bases. He also performed well in the dirt, fielding at a .948 clip and turning 11 double plays as Duluth's primary third baseman. As a result, Surowiec was honored as Northwoods League MVP on Aug. 9.
Coming to the Orange & Blue by way of Ole Miss, Surowiec competed in 11 games including three starts and logged 16 at bats for the Rebels last season. Despite the limited action, he popped two home runs and batted .375/.524/.750 with eight RBI and five runs.
"I want to step in with everyone and be on the same page, especially being a transfer," Surowiec said of his new home with the Gators. "Having the role that I want to have, I think that I can step in and be a leader. But I'm just ready to get there and be a part of the team and part of the program."
Out of Gulfport High School, Surowiec was rated the No. 89 prospect and No. 7 third baseman in the country per Perfect Game, as well as the No. 3 overall player in Mississippi.
