CHICAGO – The No. 4 Florida men's golf team finished second at the Fighting Illini Collegiate as four Gators placed in the top-17 led by
Matthew Kress' 4
th place performance on Sunday at Olympia Fields Country Club.
Yesterday, the Gators shot the tournament-low record (267, -13) to enter the final round in the lead. The defending National Champion Oklahoma State Cowboys had a final round of 5-under on to edge UF (+7 today) by two shots to take the team title in a field that featured 11 ranked teams and four of the final eight teams at the NCAA Championship.
Kress had the top-finish for the Orange and Blue along with the low round today with a 71 (+1) to end the weekend 4-under overall. It was his fourth career top-5 outing and first since a T2 (-11) at last year's NCAA Bremerton Regional.
In his season debut,
Luke Poulter captured a T9 finish with a 54-hole score of 1-under behind a final round of 72 (+2). Also turning in a 2-over in the final round was
Jack Turner, who placed T17 for his 18
th career top-25 and had a tournament score of 210 (E).
Finishing a stroke from each other was
Parker Bell (T33, +4) and
Zack Swanwick (T36, +5).
Florida returns to play at Erin Hills Golf Club for the Marquette Intercollegiate Oct. 5-7.
