
No. 4/5 Softball Picks Up Pair of Shutout Victories to Open Florida Tournament

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 4/5 Florida softball team improved to 16-0 on Friday with a pair of five-inning victories against both Longwood and Middle Tennessee on the first day of the Florida Tournament.
The Gators earned a 10-0 victory over the Lancers in the first game, before securing an 8-0 win over the Blue Raiders in game two.
Florida's pitching staff, including Keagan Rothrock, Katelynn Oxley and Leah Stevens, allowed just two hits in 10 innings with 15 strikeouts.
Rothrock improved to 7-0 in the circle, while Leah Stevens (2-0) recorded her first career complete-game shutout.
At the plate, the Gators were led by Gabi Comia who batted a team-best .667 (4-for-6) on the day with a double, two RBIs and a pair of stolen bases.
Taylor Shumaker drove-in a team-high five runs off a pair of home runs against Longwood and a game-winning double against the Blue Raiders.
NOTABLES:
The Gators will play two games on the second day of the Florida Tournament on Saturday, first vs. Lindenwood at 2 p.m., followed by a rematch with the Lancers at 4:30 p.m.

- Shumaker has now hit six home runs this season and 28 home runs in her career
- Gabi Comia matched her career-best of three hits against Middle Tennessee, going a perfect 3-for-3
- Comia now has a team-best nine multi-hit games this season
- Ava Brown, the nation's leader in total walks, drew another three total walks on Friday – two against Longwood and one against Middle Tennessee
- Brown has drawn 19 walks this season
- Cassidy McLellan and Kenleigh Cahalan have reached base in 16-straight game
- Florida is now 17-0 in the all-time series over Longwood
- Friday's night's victory over Middle Tennessee was the first meeting between the two schools in program history
- The Gator pitching staff has now recorded three straight shutouts and six on the season
- Through the first sixteen games of the season, Kenleigh Cahalan, Jocelyn Erickson, Kendall Grover and Shumaker have each hit a team-best six home runs
