DELAND, Fla. – In front of a sold-out crowd at Patricia Wilson Field on Wednesday evening, the No. 5/7 Florida softball team defeated Stetson, 8-2, completing the two-game series sweep over the Hatters.
It's the Gators' 14th-straight win over Stetson going back to 2006 and their ninth win over an in-state opponent this season.
With two RBIs on the night, Jocelyn Erickson became just the sixth player in program history with 200 RBIs, a feat she accomplished in less than three years in Gainesville.
Eight of Florida's nine starters recorded a hit in the victory, including Townsen Thomas who went a team-best 3-for-5 and Madison Walker who slugged her seventh home run as a Gator, a two-run shot.
Olivia Miller (5-0) picked up her fifth win of the season in the circle, allowing just an earned run on two hits in two innings pitched with a pair of strikeouts.
Katelynn Oxley earned the first save of her sophomore season, tossing 2.1 hitless innings with three strikeouts to close out the game.
Thomas got the scoring started in the top of the first with an RBI single, before Kenleigh Cahalan drove in Florida's second run with an RBI single in the second.
Stetson brought it within one run in the bottom of the third with an RBI double, making it a 2-1 game after three innings.
The Gators plated three more runs in the top of the fifth on three hits and a pair of Hatter fielding errors. The frame was highlighted by Erickson's two-RBI single, which made it 5-1.
A Stetson sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth made it a three-run game, before Florida recorded another three-run inning in the sixth to make it 8-2.
Oxley closed out the game with a three up, three down seventh inning.
