Senior outfielder Blake Cyr was the sixth Gator selected in the 2026 MLB Draft.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gators senior outfielder Blake Cyr came off the board at the 2026 MLB Draft on Sunday evening as the 548th overall pick in the 18th round to the New York Yankees.
Earning his first-career draft choice, Cyr is the sixth Gator to have his name called at the 2026 MLB Draft. The Windermere, Fla. native follows teammates Liam Peterson (Round 1, Pick 19 – Cleveland Guardians), Kyle Jones (Round 3, Pick 102 – Milwaukee Brewers), Russell Sandefer (Round 4, Pick 132 – Los Angeles Dodgers), Luke McNeillie (Round 5, Pick 152 – New York Mets) and Hayden Yost (Round 5, Pick 162 – Seattle Mariners).
As a result of Cyr's selection, Florida has produced six-plus draft picks in four of the last six drafts, including three of the last four (2021, 2023, 2025, 2026). The Orange & Blue has had at least six draftees in 14 of the last 18 years since 2009. Cyr represents the 237th individual draft choice in team history including the 122nd of the Kevin O'Sullivan era (2008-present).
Cyr produced a career year in his senior campaign, setting highs in batting average (.316), hits (68), doubles (15) and runs (53) while swatting 14 homers. Posting a .398 on-base percentage and slugging .591, Cyr led the Gators with seven three-hit games and 17 multi-RBI efforts while sitting second in multi-hit contests (21). He also chipped in 30 extra-base hits, one triple, 58 RBI and 20 walks while swiping six bags and did not commit an error until the final game of the season, finishing with a .990 fielding percentage and one outfield assist.
Across four collegiate seasons, Cyr appeared in 200 games while making 198 starts and slashed .291/.395/.545. He racked up 208 career hits, 47 home runs, 39 doubles, 176 RBI, 170 runs, 99 walks and 17 stolen bases in 715 at bats.
