Poulter tees off Walker Cup on Friday

Luke Poulter will compete in his second Walker Cup this weekend at Lahinch Golf Club in Ireland.
LAHINCH, Ireland – Florida men's golfer Luke Poulter and Team GB&I open up the 2026 Walker Cup on Friday at Lahinch Golf Club. The senior will be making his second appearance in the event after earning his election by be ranked among the top five GB&I players in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) as of Aug. 5.
Following the event, Poulter will return to the preseason No. 1 Gators for the season opener at the Sahalee Players Championship, Sept. 12-13.

2026 Walker Cup Schedule

The 51st Walker Cup is scheduled for Sept. 5-6 at Lahinch Golf Club in Ireland. Established in 1922, the biennial tournament will be held in consecutive years for the first time in more than a century as the event transitions from odd-numbered years back to even-numbered years.
Each of the two competition days features foursomes (alternate-shot) matches in the morning followed by singles matches in the afternoon. On Saturday, there are eight singles matches, while all 10 players from each side compete in singles on Sunday. One full point is awarded for each victory, while a half-point is earned for matches that are all square after 18 holes. The USA needs 13 points to retain the Cup, while GB&I requires 13.5 points to reclaim it.
Poulter heads into his final season with some preseason notoriety by being named to the Haskins Award Watch List and a preseason All-American by Golf Channel and Golfweek. Last year, earned All-America honors from the GCAA and Golfweek following a strong junior campaign, while also being named an Academic All-American.
Poulter collected his second collegiate victory at the Columbus Regional and finished second on the team with a 71.2 stroke average. Outside of a T39 and T55, he finished T16 or better in each tournament and posted a score of par or better in eight of his 10 tournaments played. At the NCAA Championship, he carded under-par rounds of 68 (-4) and 71 (-1) to help Florida advance to match play.
This summer, Poulter competed in his second Arnold Palmer Cup, helping Team International win the competition for the second consecutive year. He also received an exemption into the PGA TOUR's 2027 Arnold Palmer Invitational, March 18-21, where he will make his PGA TOUR debut.
