AS A JUNIOR (2018): Made 37 appearances on the mound, most in the SEC and third nationally, with a 1.61 ERA in 61.1 innings…Totaled 16 saves, most in the SEC and tied for third in the nation…Now holds the top two spots at UF for saves in a season after posting a school-record 19 in 2017…Set a new school record with 35 career saves, breaking the previous record held by John Pricher (25, 1988-92) with his 26th career save against Vanderbilt on March 30…Had an impressive 64 strikeouts to just five walks and limited hitters to a .203 batting average against…In the 2018 postseason, posted a 0.51 ERA in 17.2 innings, allowing just one earned run with 20 strikeouts and one walk…Strikeout-to-walk ratio of 12.8 would lead the nation if he had qualified with enough innings (min. 1.0 IP per team game; Byrne pitched 61.1 innings in 70 team games)…Had three saves in the NCAA Tournament, bringing his career total to 10 saves in the NCAA Tournament…Pitched 6.1 scoreless innings in the Super Regional to help the Gators advance to their fourth-straight College World Series.
AS A SOPHOMORE (2017): Had an increased role in year two at UF and took advantage, having an All-American season and shattering the school record with a nation’s best 19 saves, breaking the previous UF season record of 13…Led the SEC with 38 appearances and posted a 1.67 earned run average, second in the SEC and seventh in the nation…Had an impressive 93 strikeouts to just 15 walks on the year over 75.2 innings, ranking second in the conference with a 6.20 strikeout-to-walk ratio…Began the season as a midweek starter with solid success, posting a 2.40 ERA in 15.0 innings before moving to the bullpen…In 35 relief appearances, posted a 1.48 ERA in 60.2 innings…Tied the school record with his 13th save of the year against Ole Miss and broke it with his 14th save against Auburn in the SEC Tournament…Had five saves in the NCAA Tournament, a new UF postseason record…Appeared four times in the 2017 College World Series and recorded three saves without allowing a run in seven innings pitched.
SUMMER (2017): Joined the Cotuit Kettleers in the Cape Cod League and helped them to a second place finish in the West Division…Pitched in seven games and had a 0.63 ERA over 14.1 innings…Had 13 strikeouts.
AS A FRESHMAN (2016): Saw action in 13 games, all in relief…Pitched to an 0-1 record with a 3.94 ERA…Gave up 8 runs (7 earned) on 11 hits and 3 walks in 16.0 innings of work…Registered 15 strikeouts on the season, good for a K/9 of 8.44…Was second on the team in batting average against, allowing opponents to hit just .183…Also placed second on the team in WHIP (Walks+Hits per Inning Pitched) at 0.88…Committed 0 errors…His first career out was recorded via strikeout in the eighth inning of a game against #6 ranked University of Miami…Only allowed runs in 10 of his 13 career appearances…Accumlated 4.0 innings of work across 4 games in the postseason, with an ERA of 6.75…Pitched a scoreless inning in the NCAA Regional win over Bethune-Cookman
SUMMER (2016): Played for the Madison Mallards in the Northwoods League...Made eight appearances with six starts and had a 4.35 ERA...Racked up 46 strikeouts in 31 innings with nine walks for the Mallards, who earned the No. 2 seed in the division for the playoffs with a 43-29 record.
HIGH SCHOOL: Right-handed pitcher from Olympia High School who played for head coach Chuck Schall…Earned the Class 8A Player of the Year in 2015 and compiled a 29-2 varsity pitching record over three seasons…Olympia started his senior season 25-0 and reached No. 1 in USA Today’s Super 25 national rankings last spring and finished 27-2-1…Was 7-2 as a senior with a 1.25 earned run average…Totaled 96 strikeouts and 13 walks in 72.2 innings and held opponents to a .170 batting average…Threw a no-hitter and had a career-high 14 strikeouts in a 1-0 win over Wekiva…Was the Central Florida Player of the Year and the District Pitcher of the Year, as well as a member of the Class 8A All-State Team and the All-Area Team from Orlando Sentinel…Participated in the 2015 Florida Athletic Coaches Association All-Star Game…Was an Honorable Mention Preseason All-American and was named to the Florida All-Region Second Team by Rawlings/Perfect Game prior to his senior year…Went 10-1 with a 0.93 ERA as a junior, with 62 strikeouts in 67.2 IP…Byrne had a no-hitter in the district title victory over Apopka…Was a 2014 Perfect Game Underclass High Honorable Mention All-American and a 2013 Perfect Game Underclass Honorable Mention All-American.
