May 11, 2004 Dear Gator Fans, Greetings from Amsterdam! After an uneventful flight from Tampa, we arrived at 8:30 a.m. this morning to face only two obstacles: 1) figuring out the dollar to Euro exchange and 2), staying awake. Our first stop from the airport was "Zaana Schans", a replicated Dutch village complete with Disney-type gift shops. The first purchase of the trip was by the shoe-queen herself, Taylor Williams now a proud owner of authentic wooden clogs. The second purchase was hot chocolate. They call this summer? We were some kind of chilled Gators walking amongst the canals and wind mills this morning.
From the village, we bused to our hotel. Again, keeping the players awake was our greatest challenge. For the no-doze group, it was a walking tour of the "Red Light" District - the area adjacent to our hotel. Don't worry Gator fans, we turned right outside our hotel, not left.
As I write this, we're returning from practice - although I use that term loosely. At least we got some of the flight out of our legs before we play the Danish Junior National Team tomorrow. Tonight it's none other than Amsterdam's finest food for dinner: pizza. My motto - keep 'em awake, keep 'em happy, and then get them to bed! Tot Ziens (good bye for all you non-Dutch speaking Gator fans) | ||||
