Return to Campus Plan

The UAA is following directions and guidelines from UF Health, state health officials, NCAA, SEC and University of Florida regarding competitions, training and academic classes based on latest developments and the continued spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The SEC & NCAA will allow voluntary in-person athletics activities back on campuses to begin June 8. The UAA has worked with UF Health and state health officials to create a plan for student-athletes to gradually return to campus.

  • Florida Mask IconWe will phase student-athletes back to campus.
  • Student-athletes will be tested for COVID-19 as part of their pre-participation physical exam and must be completed prior to the start of any physical activity. These tests are being done by appointment and will be scheduled through the athletic training staff.
  • Our Athletic Trainers and Dr. Jay Clugston have worked with Dr. Mike Lauzardo, chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases and Global Medicine at UFHealth, and Dr. Katrik Cherabuddi, director of UFHealth's Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, on best practices and protocol for training and have determined the Indoor Practice Facility is where we will conduct weight training. Athletes will be screened daily with a questionnaire and temperature check.
  • PPE will be required for all student athlete appointments except for lifting sessions.
  • Access to athletic facilities (training room, IPF for weights, academic advising) are by appointment only. Locker rooms and lounges will be closed.
  • Student-athletes will be educated on best practices related to physical distancing, wearing of face masks/cloth face coverings and handwashing.
  • Weight room equipment and facilities will be sanitized between each session and thoroughly at the end of each day.
  • Strength staff will follow national guidelines for safe return to training following inactivity.
  • Student-athletes continue to have access to four licensed mental health counselors.
  • We are working with campus on housing. For those athletes who live in dorms, those will be available when they return to campus.
  • Students are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines in Residence Halls.
